Hidden Gem – Janet Holmes Exhibition
Hidden Gem
Cheshire based Ceramicist Janet Holmes, a Cheshire Woman of the Year nominee in 2010, is renowned for celebrating clay in its most natural unglazed and sensually form. She is holding a solo exhibition at Burton Manor Atelier Gallery, were she also has her own workshop; she is inviting people to visit and try for themselves.
People often feel drawn to handle Janet’s work as if inspired by a primitive urge to embrace their tactile curves and shapes. More than once Janet has raised a blush or two with her highly provocative sculptures but it is not shock tactics that she employs. She creates what she feels. The individuals responding to the piece are bringing their own perception. This response when its meets with Janet’s expectations is the artistic accomplishment.
The poet and entertainer John Gorman (Scaffold) is a keen supporter and has presented her “Great !” sculptures at his monthly arts events.
Her exhibition at Burton Manor Atelier is highlighting what a Hidden Gem is embedded in the Cheshire countryside. The beautiful surroundings are an inspiration to Janet who says “Having a workshop at Atelier has opened up an amazing potential for me that I would like to share with others. I am offering ceramic workshops and anyone who may have considered creating with clay is very welcome to come to the exhibition on Sunday 13th March and un-tap their own hidden gem of creativity”.
